Alabama Students Displaying Agriscience Skills at FFA State Convention

Students from across Alabama are traveling to Auburn and Montgomery this week to participate in exciting competitions, career expos, and much more at the 2016 Alabama FFA State Convention,.
More than 2,000 students and teachers will attend this week’s state convention, which is being held at Auburn University (June 7), and at Montgomery’s Renaissance Convention Center ().
FFA is devoted to preparing students for careers in agriscience-related occupations. It has been estimated that one out of every five Americans is employed in the critical food, fiber, and natural resource industries of agriculture. Students will have an opportunity to earn awards in 80 different competition areas including forestry, landscaping, wildlife management, and prepared public speaking. Top competition winners will represent Alabama at the upcoming National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana in October.
“Nationally, the FFA organization serves more than 600,000 high school, college, and professional members – we are focused on preparing students for a lifetime of success,” says FFA Executive Secretary Philip Paramore. “Students attending this year’s convention will test their skills in exciting state-level competitions, build their leadership skills in fun convention workshops, and network with peers and professionals from across the country.”

The National FFA Convention is the largest gathering of students in the world and the third largest convention in the United States – similar in size to the Democratic and Republican national conventions. Alabama currently has nearly 15,000 FFA members.
