Local Student Wins American Legion Scholastic Medal Nicolas Britto

American Legion Post 34 Commander Nicolas Britto presented the American Legion Scholastic Medal to Bryant High School to Marine Corps JROTC Cadet Staff Sergeant Raykenia Bowers during the recent 2016 annual awards ceremony held at Bryant High School in Tuscaloosa.

Since 1926, the American Legion has recognized outstanding students who demonstrate strong qualities of character and good citizenship with its School Award Medal Program. Those who receive a medal must exemplify six qualities that define character: courage, honor, leadership, patriotism, scholarship and service.

Candidates for the award are voted upon by a school's faculty and members of the candidates graduating class through a secret ballot casting. The local Legion post involved with the school makes the final selection upon receiving recommendation from students and faculty.

Congratulations!
