For those of us parents who tend to work often, relying on Friday and Monday holidays to extend the normal 48 hours of relaxation and summer sun and fun with our kiddos, we sometimes have to become creative with the ways we entertain our little ones. This is especially true if beach vacations and road trips aren't in the immediate future.
The 10th annual Nick's Kids Foundation luncheon was held Wednesday in The North Zone at Bryant-Denny Stadium where checks totaling $475,000 were presented to 150 local and state non-profit organizations. Since Nick and Terry Saban arrived in Tuscaloosa in 2007, approximately $5.5 million has been given to more than 250 deserving charities and organizations throughout the state and surrounding areas.
This week, students in the UA Fringe course taught by associate professor Sarah Barry and her husband Mark Barry, will travel to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Edinburgh, Scotland, to perform in their first major dance performance on a world stage.

T-Town Trade Daze began back in June, with a gathering of nearly 50 vendors selling wares over a two-day weekend at the Old Farmer’s Market location by the Black Warrior River. The Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday for Alabama is fast approaching, and the cities of Tuscaloosa and Northport, along with Tuscaloosa County, are all participating. The sales tax holiday is set for this weekend, Aug. 5-7, offering a much-needed break for parents and students as they prepare to go back to school in coming weeks.
