With another University of Alabama football season just around the corner, it is a good time to take a look at the Crimson Tide's Top Five all-time leaders in a host of categories heading into the 2016 campaign.

School’s in for the summer! The students at Holy Spirit Catholic School headed back to class on Thursday, August 4, ready to hit the books and start the new school year. The kindergarten students had a “Blast Off to Kindergarten” event and the middle and high school students are anxious to receive their new iPads as Holy Spirit becomes a “one to one” iPad school.

Screenings in the Bama Art House Film Series Fall 2016 will begin on Aug. 16 and will feature eight films, starting with the 2016 film “Love and Friendship” – based on Jane Austen’s novella “Lady Susan,” and starring Kate Beckinsale, Chloë Sevigny and Xavier Samuel.

Tuscaloosa County University of Alabama Alumni Annual Kickoff Party: Aug. 11, 6-8 p.m. North Zone at Bryant-Denny Stadium. This event celebrates the beginning of a new academic and athletic year at the Capstone. This year’s guest speaker is Jeremiah Castille. 23rd Annual Night Light Golf Tournament: Aug. 12, Ol’ Colony Golf Complex, Tuscaloosa. This four-person scramble tournament benefits Child Abuse Prevention Services (CAPS). Golfers will play nine holes before dark, enjoy a BBQ dinner and play nine holes in the dark with glow in the dark golf balls. There will be door prizes, a grand prize and a silent auction. “Men Who Cook”: Aug. 12, 6-8 p.m. McAbee Center, Tuscaloosa. This annual fundraiser benefits FOCUS on Senior Citizens of Tuscaloosa County’s Retired and Senior Volunteer Programs, as well as the Foster Grandparent Programs. Tickets: $15. For more information, call (205) 553-3133. 

As part of President Obama’s Early Learning Initiative, the state of Alabama is participating in Early Head Start-Child Care (EHS-CC) Partnerships, which allows Early Head Start programs to partner with local child care centers, serving infants and toddlers from low-income families.

The Adopt-A-School program welcomed noted child advocate Elizabeth “Liz” Huntley as keynote speaker during its annual kickoff event, held August 4th at the University Church of Christ.

The Northport Nationals’ six-year-old baseball team recently won the 2016 Dizzy Dean World Series championship in Southhaven, Mississippi. The team finished with a record of 17-1, with its only loss being in pool play at the World Series.
