Meet Lilo, a happy, 8 to 10-month-old female terrier/schnauzer mix. This darling pup is this week’s HSWA Pet of the Week.

On any given day, Dr. Katy Drain can be found busily caring for animals at her newly-opened Capstone Veterinary Hospital. Drain, who has worked as a veterinarian in Tuscaloosa for the past 15 years, is passionate about the pets she treats, and their owners.

“What drives me is my love for animals, the nurturing, love and compassion that I have for them,” Drain said. “Second is the science, and third is their owners and the relationship I have with them. I love that owners trust me.”

Sure, it’s one thing for us humans to spend a morning or afternoon competing in some sort of sport – this is 5K season, after all. But have you ever considered competing alongside your dog? How fun would that be?

That’s exactly what can happen if you participate in the first ever Druid City Iron Dog competition this Saturday, May 14, at Lake Lurleen. The event consists of a two-mile walk/trot, a novice agility course and a swim relay that’s *just* for the pooches.

Calling all humans and canines! Come one, come all to the Will May Dog Park on Saturday, April 9, because Tuscaloosa’s third annual Bark in the Park promises fun for everyone.

Sponsored by the Tuscaloosa Association of Realtors and generous local businesses, organizations, and volunteers, this highly successful fundraising event honors the legacy of Will May while supporting the efforts of the Tuscaloosa Parks and Recreation Authority to maintain our city’s official dog park.

Admission is free, donations are appreciated, and all are encouraged to attend.
