Congratulations, Graduates: What Do You Miss Most About College? The Atlantic

By Liz Stephens

For those of us who are (ahem) a few years removed from our college days, this time of year often finds us waxing nostalgic. Seeing those graduation invites on the fridge makes us think back to the wonderful years we spent in higher learning.

Do I miss it? You bet I do. Would I go back? Maybe, for a week or so. But the truth is, when you really stop to think about it, a lot of things we’d say we miss the most about college – well, we can still enjoy those things. Granted, we might need to get a sitter and juggle schedules a bit…but still. It’s doable.

Need proof? According to this great list of things you miss most about college by, voters cited everything from “Spontaneous Craziness” to “Actual Free Time” to “Learning Completely New Things” as some of the things they miss the most. Agreed. But the key here is that each one of those things can still happen after college. Students who are getting ready to graduate from UA and Shelton and Stillman, take heart. It’s going to be great.

Graduates, know this: Adulting is fun, for the most part. Yes, it’s stressful at times, but so is trying to juggle five classes and dealing with five finals coming all at once. It’s a different *kind* of stress, but the lessons you learned in school will serve you just fine in the “real world.”

What do you miss the most about college? Sure, your friends might not live five minutes from you, but trust me, you’ll get together often in the years to come. You may have to rely on texting and Snapchat and other forms of awesome tech that keep us connected to those far away – but these friends you made in college, they are your forever friends. The reunions are going to be epic events.

Also? I’d be remiss if I didn’t give a shout out to Druid City Living’s own Tori Linville, who is graduating from the University of Alabama this weekend. Tori: Trust me, it’s gonna be awesome fun adulting!
