“These ginger snap cookies we have are made in this little town in Sweden,” said World Market employee and UA student Rosemary Erb. “World Market pretty much keeps this Swedish town afloat because they buy the entire supply of cookies from this factory. They're thin and have a little gingery bite but they're still sweet and crispy. The cookies are the most popular product and top selling for their store nationwide.”
The new store draws in many University of Alabama students since it is so close to campus and has products that cannot be found in other stores nearby.
“I love the holiday section because the decorations and foods are so unique,” said UA student Taylor Curtis.
World Market also has a wide variety of seasonal cooking products for those who are interested in cooking and/or baking.
“I love to cook and bake so I was excited when I found things like pumpkin pasta sauce, pumpkin butter, apple cinnamon bread mix, pumpkin cookie mix, and seasonal spices,” said Curtis.
“I’m in heaven right now,” said UA student Pauline Fitzgerald. “I was born in Italy and lived there until I moved to America when I was 13 and now I go to UA. There’s a section that has a bunch of foods and condiments that I used to love when I lived in Italy but now that I live in America they’re impossible to find.”
With the new World Market store being so close to a university’s campus, it seems to generate the interest of international students, according to Fitzgerald.
“I think this new store will be popular among the international students because there are probably foods from their home country that they cannot get here in America,” said Fitzgerald. “I myself have heard some of my international friends talking about World Market and how much they love it.”
The World Market in Tuscaloosa sells various coffees, international foods, wines, and craft beer. The remaining portions of the store are dedicated to furniture, rugs, light fixtures, and kitchen supplies.
