Things to Do: Temerson Square Merchants “Second Saturday” Block Party Celebration

Second Saturday is happening at Temerson Square on June 11. Second Saturday is happening at Temerson Square on June 11. Josh Watkins

This summer is jam packed with fun, entertaining things to do – many of them in downtown Tuscaloosa. Now, merchants in Temerson Square are holding their own party. Dubbed “Second Saturday,” this celebration is essentially an entertainment district – with restaurants and clubs holding sidewalk parties and offering “drinks to go.” It’s a big block party, and it sounds like a whole lot of fun.

Even better? The Temerson Square area is an officially designated "Entertainment District" on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., meaning customers can indeed enjoy "go cups" - as long as they stay within the designated area, which is essentially just the bars and restaurants within the Temerson zone (so think Mellow Mushroom/Depalma's, all the way back to Copper Top and down to R. Davidson Chophouse and then over to Wilhagen's).

Second Saturday Happenings, June 11

Participating merchants include The Avenue Pub (405 23rd Ave), which is holding a “Bud & Burgers Sidewalk Party” with free sliders and live street music from 2 to 8 p.m., and R. Davidson Chophouse and the Wheelhouse Sports Pub, who are teaming up to hold a special Pig Smoking from noon until 8 p.m. The smoker comes out on Friday afternoon, and the pork will be ready by Saturday afternoon. There's also a cornhole tournament AND a dunking booth, along with drink specials.

Tavern 1831, along with The Filling Station, Gnemi's Top Shelf Tavern and The Kitchen are in on the fun too from what I hear!

Additional Second Saturday events are planned on July 9 and Aug. 13.

**I don’t know about you guys, but between the Fiddle Festival at Government Plaza and this Second Saturday thing, downtown Tuscaloosa is THE PLACE to be this weekend. See you there!**
